Authentic Language & Culture
Even though I can provide the students a close-to native Spanish language experience, the culture that the language lives within is not in the United States compared to in a Spanish-speaking country. For this reason, there are a hefty number of authentic language and cultural Web 2.0 sites that allow for authentic language and culture learning.
A few sites that I utilize in my classroom are:
BBC Languages – This has a fabulous site for beginner language learning (especially for parents) but more importantly they have an interactive video program that is great to integrate the culture and language in the classroom. Students are very interactive while they work together to solve the questions posed to them within the video series.
YouTube & TeacherTube – Allows students to view video about the culture of different Spanish speaking countries.
Spanish-Speaking Newspapers – Gives students authentic text regarding current events in the target language. Sites that we use in the classroom now are El Pais and BBC Mundo.
