A Look into my Classroom...
1. Healthy student - teacher relationships.
I always want my students to know and respect me; however, I will have to be the one who respects them as well. I know that just because I hold the 'teacher' card, it does not mean that I automatically deserve respect. Respect is earned, but it is also not a one-way street.
2. Target Language Use.
95% of my classroom will be taught in the target language. This fact is scary to most students, parents, colleagues, even my family! However, I know that I have the training and skills necessary to accomplish this feat. It might not always be easy, but nothing ever is in life. And trust me (and I will give you a reason to), you will receive 10 times the benefits of the target language in my classroom.
3. Integrating Culture.
Those who know me (and you will get to know me very well!) know that I have a passion for Latin America and all who live there! I love the food, music, people, way of life, holidays, how they treat each other, and thousands of other wonderful things that I could go on and on about! This is what makes class interesting. Integrating this into the classroom will not only keep and hold student attention, but hopefully it will break down barriers and help my students see that just because someone lives differently from us doesn't mean that they are weird or bad, just different. This is a very important objective in my classroom.
